Mari’s schoolwork is a mix of scheduled, live classes called Class Connect sessions and self-guided offline assignments and activities that can be done more at her own pace. Live classes are also recorded so Mari can catch up on anything she might miss with her doctor’s appointments.
A typical day may have her starting with live art and English classes led by her state-certified teachers and then include activities for math and history later. If she gets stuck at all, her mom Hope (also her Learning Coach) is there to help. She can ask the teachers questions in the live classes, via email, or during weekly office hours.
A benefit of schools powered by K12 is that the educational materials—a computer, textbooks, supplies for offline activities, and more—are provided.
Social Time
One of Mari’s favorite social activities is when she gets to see her friends at the military learning co-op.
They do art activities together, exercise at the gym, and catch up on schoolwork they may have left to do for the week. Many families are concerned about how their kids stay social if they’re in an online school. The good news is that being online doesn’t mean kids are disconnected from their peers. Students can connect in their classes, in clubs, and in some cases, at local in-person opportunities.
